About the drive
Jim Corbett is 185 kilometres from Haridwar, four to five hours via Najibabad and Kashipur to Ramnagar, the town at the main gate. It is the easiest wildlife trip from Haridwar and the shortest of our long-distance routes, which makes it a popular three-night addition to a Rishikesh or Nainital itinerary.
What matters far more than the drive is the safari booking. Permits are issued by zone in strictly limited numbers and sell out well ahead in season — Dhikala for the classic grassland experience on an overnight permit, Bijrani for excellent sightings with easier access, Jhirna and Dhela which stay open year-round, and Durga Devi for birds. We book permits the moment the window opens rather than taking whatever is left.
We hold rooms at a resort along the Kosi river close to the gate, because being an hour away at five in the morning is exactly how people miss the best hour of the day. Safaris run twice daily in open jeeps with a licensed guide and park naturalist; for larger groups the canter bus into Dhikala is a good, much cheaper alternative.
