About this journey

Do Dham covers the two Dhams that most pilgrims consider essential — Kedarnath and Badrinath — in six days instead of the full circuit's ten. It exists because a great many travellers cannot take a fortnight away, and because Yamunotri and Gangotri sit in a different river system to the west, which means dropping them removes far more driving than it removes darshan. If you have a week and want the heart of the Yatra, this is the route we recommend without hesitation.

The Kedarnath leg comes first. We drive from Haridwar through Devprayag and Rudraprayag to a stay at Guptkashi or Sonprayag, so that you begin the climb rested rather than straight off a nine-hour drive. The ascent from Gaurikund is sixteen kilometres and takes most walkers six to nine hours; ponies and palkis are arranged in advance at agreed rates, and helicopter shuttles from Phata, Sersi or Guptkashi can be added subject to weather. We aim your darshan at the quieter windows rather than the mid-morning crush.

Badrinath follows, and it is a gentler day in every respect — the road runs to within a few hundred metres of the temple, so there is no trek at all. We include Tapt Kund, the hot spring where pilgrims bathe before darshan, and Brahma Kapal on the riverbank, and we build in time for Mana village three kilometres up the road: Bhim Pul over the roaring Saraswati, Vyas Gufa, and for keen walkers the five kilometres out to Vasudhara Falls.

The whole route is run with one vehicle and one driver, carrying oxygen, a basic medical kit and warm layers throughout, with Yatra registration and biometric passes completed before you travel. Do Dham extends naturally in either direction: add Gangotri to make it Teen Dham at eight days, or add a night at Badrinath or Joshimath and continue to Auli for the meadows. Our concierge will rework the days around your dates and your walking appetite before anything is confirmed.
