About this journey
The Char Dham Yatra is the great pilgrimage of the Garhwal Himalaya — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, taken in that clockwise order because that is how it has been done for centuries. Over ten days you cross the Yamuna, Bhagirathi, Mandakini and Alaknanda valleys, climb from the plains at Haridwar to shrines above 3,500 metres, and cover close to 1,600 kilometres of mountain road. It is a serious undertaking, and the difference between a Yatra that exhausts you and one that changes you is almost entirely down to how it is planned.
Our version is built around rest. We use a single vehicle and a single driver for the whole circuit, so nobody re-packs into a stranger's car at four in the morning, and we cap the driving at what these roads can genuinely take rather than what looks good on a spreadsheet. Stays are the best available at each stage — Barkot, Uttarkashi, Guptkashi or Sonprayag, Badrinath and Joshimath — chosen for a hot shower, a clean bed and proximity to the next morning's start rather than for a star rating. Where we can gain you an hour of sleep by staying higher up the valley, we do.
Every logistical friction point is handled before you arrive. Yatra registration and biometric passes are completed in advance, ponies and palkis for the Yamunotri and Kedarnath climbs are arranged at agreed rates so there is no bargaining at the trailhead, and helicopter shuttles to Kedarnath from Phata or Guptkashi can be added subject to weather and availability. The vehicle carries oxygen canisters, a basic medical kit and warm layers throughout, because altitude affects fit young travellers just as readily as older ones.
The itinerary is a starting point rather than a contract. Many families add a night at Badrinath to see Mana village and Vasudhara Falls properly, extend at Harsil on the way to Gangotri, or build in a rest day at Uttarkashi in the middle of the circuit. Others shorten it to Do Dham or Teen Dham. Tell our concierge your dates, your group and how much you want to walk in a day, and we will rebuild the plan around that before you pay anything.
